What Is a CMA?
A Certified Medication Aide
(CMA) administers medications to residents in long-term care facilities under
the supervision of a licensed nurse. CMAs must have a valid Kansas CNA
certification before enrolling. The role commands higher wages than CNA and
carries greater responsibility.

• Drug classifications, common medications, and adverse effects
• Accurate documentation and error/incident reporting
• Patient rights and handling medication refusals
• Infection control in medication handling
• Kansas state regulations for medication aides

Students who complete the CMA program receive a Certificate of Completion from TCI. Students may not practice as a CMA in Kansas until they hold proof of license from KDADS.
